Fine Art School Portraits
I’m thrilled to visit and capture beautiful moments of your child! This guide provides essential information to help ensure a smooth, enjoyable photo day.
My goal is to capture your child’s true personality, focusing on genuine expressions rather than forced smiles. Expect a range of emotions—serious, silly, and everything in between!
I will engage with your child to bring out natural smiles and candid moments, ensuring you receive images that showcase their unique personality.
School Portrait Parent Guide
I have compiled a list of frequently asked questions to answer any questions that may arise. If after reading these you have a question that is not included here please feel free to contact me at brandi@jojobeestudios.com
Picture Day
How are the children photographed?
The children are photographed on a dark grey background. I will be using flash to create a consistent look.
Portraits are captured in a tight frame (mainly head and shoulders). This will allow us to truly see their personality.
What should my child wear?
Your child won’t be wearing his or her uniform for photo day!
BEST: For photo day, the goal is to look comfortable and timeless and keep the focus on your child’s face and personality. Solid colors like navy, cream, gray, burgundy, mustard, or soft pastels photograph beautifully. Jewel tones (deep blue, emerald green, burgundy, plum) add richness and work well on all skin tones. Small, subtle patterns (thin stripes, tiny floral, fine plaid) can add interest without distracting. Textures like knits, ribbed fabrics, or soft eyelet add depth without competing for attention
AVOID: Neon colors, clothing with large print logos or imagery, casual athletic attire like hoodies or sweatshirts. Also, keep in mind that your child will be photographed against a dark grey background and it’s best to stay away from wearing black. Neon colors are also not advised as they might give a colorcast to their skin.
Maybe choose a couple of options and let your child pick their final outfit. Kids are super proud of their outfits and they do feel special wearing their favorite outfit.
Keep things simple so their little personalities can do most of the work, that’s what it’s all about!
What if my child refuses to have their photo taken?
I will never force a child to have their photo taken. From experience with the help of teachers, I’ve always been able to get a couple of shots. There will probably be some singing and begging. silliness, but no forcing kids, ever.
On a side note, if as a parent you want to peek during the photographs, one piece of advice is just to hide. Children often just cooperate better if their parents are not around.
Can siblings be photographed together?
Yes, I love photographing siblings together!
Do I have to pre-pay for my photographs?
No. All orders are placed after you see your images via the online gallery.
Selecting Your Photos
When will I see the images?
My goal is to have your images available for viewing and ordering approximately 7 days after the last picture day at school. It will be a paperless process and with this in mind please make sure to keep track of your email so you don’t miss out!!
Do I get more than one image to choose from?
Yes, usually galleries have 3-5 images to select from. Images will be available in color and black & white. Keep in mind that some children are more camera shy than others, and for this reason, this is an average, not a guarantee.
What does the expiration date on my gallery mean?
Your gallery’s expiration date is the last day that you can place an order. After the expiration date, images will be removed from the site and from the system as I have concluded that you are not planning to order.
Will my images be private?
Yes, all online galleries are private and password protected.
How can I order my images online?
You will receive an email with the link and password to the gallery via email.
You will use the password and register for the gallery with your email address. You can register different email addresses for your gallery with the same password, that way multiple family members can register for the gallery and place orders.
Select a photo that you like from your album and click ‘Order photo’. Then select the product of your choice, enter the desired quantity, and click ‘Add to Cart’. When you have placed all the images you like into your shopping cart, click ‘Cart’ on the top right of the screen and follow the checkout instructions.
Is it possible to place a single order for multiple galleries?
To offer the most flexibility in ordering for all parents I have found it’s best to keep each gallery separated. Each gallery is a separate order and checkout.
Receiving Your Photos
Will the watermark be removed from the images?
Absolutely! The watermark is only used online in the galleries to protect my work against illegal downloads. There will be no watermark on prints or digital downloads.
What's the quality of the print products?
I am committed to offering high-quality products. My labs and I work together to provide prints that last a lifetime. Please feel free to get in touch within 3 business days if there’s a problem with a print product. My prints come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
How long will the delivery take?
No more waiting on prints to be ordered until galleries close!
Your order will be processed immediately after your payment. You will receive a confirmation of your order via email. Print orders are sent to the lab automatically after you place your order and will be shipped to the address you entered during the checkout process.
Digital files are delivered via email immediately (see next question).
How do I download my digital files?
I am proud to offer instant digital downloads to parents. Digital downloads can be downloaded immediately after you place your order. You will receive 1 email with your order confirmation and a separate email with the link to download your images.
If you do not receive an email with your download info, check your spam folder.
Please click on your download link and immediately download your files to your computer and/or hard-drive. Please note, these are large files and should be downloaded to a computer first.
Your digital download link is available as long as your gallery is online. Once the online ordering is over and your gallery is no longer online, images will be removed from the online hosting gallery.
I also advise uploading your digital files to a cloud storage backup, such as or , for safekeeping. Be sure to download AND immediately back up your files!
Please note, YOU are responsible for the backup of your images, Jojo Bee Photography is unable to archive your portraits.
One Last Thing
Your child’s privacy is important to me!
I occasionally like to post a sneak peek on social media from my photo day at a particular school or add new kids’ photos to my website and marketing materials. If you would be willing to give me permission to include your child’s photo (never any names) for these purposes, please complete the following release form. Thank you so much!
